Letter from the PTA
President
A Letter from the PTA President:
Welcome to a new adventure called year-round school! I know we all
have mixed feelings about being back so soon. As a mother of four in
3 different schools and on 3 different calendars, I am proceeding
forward in a positive way. This school year can be even better than
before! I offer a special welcome to new families that have joined
our school this year. We have families that have attended Brassfield
but are new to year-round, families that are familiar with
year-round but new to Brassfield, and families that are new to
year-round and Brassfield. In a way that makes us all new,
so—welcome to our new year! Our PTA will proceed with surprisingly
few adjustments. We consider our school ONE school and will plan and
fund activities and programs in the manner we have before. We have
adjusted the PTA calendar to ensure all tracks benefit from the many
programs offered. Many activities will now be offered twice so that
the programs can serve all tracks. If that wasn’t practical, then
events and activities were spaced out across
tracks and offered toward the end of a track-out, in hopes that the
tracked-out group could still return to participate. To help keep
this all straight and to plan ahead, the PTA is selling calendars
with PTA and school information color-coded by track. Look for those
in our new PTA Alley that is described in other articles in this
newsletter.
Communication is so important especially with a year-round schedule.
Because of the track-out
schedule, we will always have a portion of our families that are not
in school.. We will rely upon written correspondence such as weekly
newsletters and The Bugle to keep you informed. As in the past, we
will send these home in the weekly folders and post them on our
website for the benefit of our off-track families. Please make sure
we have your email address so we can keep you informed if there is a
special need during your track-outs. We are collecting these at our
PTA Membership booth at PTA Alley.
Last of all, I would like to ask for your
patience with us as we are learning how to continue being a great
PTA on a year-round schedule. I’m sure we will discover better ways
to do things for future years. Feel free to approach any board
member to offer your encouragement and suggestions. And as always, I
encourage you to become involved in PTA. Help make a difference at
Brassfield! Volunteer to help with a PTA program as well as in the
classroom. Purchase a PTA membership and participate in our
carefully chosen fundraisers. Brassfield is an excellent school and
a good portion of that can be contributed to you, the parent, staff
member, and teacher who offer such quality help to our PTA.
Best wishes for a great year!
Tama Berriman, PTA President
